SUMMARY:HM Toast to the Classics: Where the Boys Are (1960)
DESCRIPTION:Step into the golden age of spring break with the kickoff of HM Toast to the Classics\, our new film series celebrating iconic movies set in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. We’re kicking things off with the 1960 spring break classic\, Where The Boys Are\, a sun-soaked\, coming-of-age comedy that follows four college friends from Penmore University who head south searching for sunshine\, adventure\, and maybe even a little romance. What starts as a lighthearted getaway quickly becomes a journey of self-discovery\, love\, and unexpected life lessons. \n\n\n\nWe will have a pre-film discussion featuring fashion historian Cece Feinberg\, who will explore 1960s fashion trends and the societal impact of swimwear during this period. \n\n\n\nEnjoy complimentary refreshments\, classic film vibes\, and enjoy a film that helped define a generation—on the big screen at Museum of Miami. \n\n\n\nFree for members | $20 for member guests \n\n\n\nMuseum Members must sign in to register. DESCRIPTION:Explore the photography of Annette and Rudi Rada with curator and University of Miami professor\, Dr. Victor Deupi. Gain new insights into the exhibition as you take a closer look at some of the featured works. \n\n\n\nPresented in conjunction with the exhibition Annette and Rudi Rada: Photographing Mid-Century South Florida and the Caribbean. \n\n\n\nAnnette and Rudi Rada: Photographing Mid-Century South Florida and the Caribbean celebrates the renowned husbandand-wife photographer duo\, Annette and Rudi Rada\, whose work has profoundly shaped our understanding of South Florida and the Caribbean during the latter half of the 20th century. Through nearly three decades of prolific documentation\, the Radas captured the architectural and societal transformations that defined Miami’s evolution from a post-war city to a tropical metropolis. Their photography not only chronicles the rise of distinctive regional styles but also offers a nuanced perspective on mid-century life. The exhibition delves into their impactful portrayals of Miami’s modern\, tropical vernacular\, their ethnographic exploration of indigenous communities\, and the cultural dynamics of the Caribbean and South America. \n\n\n\nCapacity is limited. Wallace\n\n\n\nDorothy M. Wallace was born in Morocco\, Missouri and later moved to Miami with her family in 1951. She holds a Batchelor’s Degree from Lincoln University and attended University of Miami’s School of Education\, becoming one of the first two African Americans to receive a Master’s Degree in 1963 from the university.
