She is the grandniece of famous Haitian saxophonist-composer Raoul Guillaume as well as Guy Durosier\, a versatile Haitian singer and organist whom Edith Piaf once called ”the living breath of Haiti’. Upon immigrating to the USA\, she received scholarships to pursue her higher education in piano performance and the healing arts leading her to find a wholistic path in pursuing her passions in ancient civilizations through her Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In addition to her clinical practice and teaching appointments\, she regularly performs and produces with a variety of musicians and has recently been working on music scoring for films which led her to compose the theme song for a short Haitian film entitled “Brother Peace” featuring historian Bayina Bello. Her current performance instillation “Vodou Alchemy” is an avant-garde concept that weaves the Haitian traditional songbook with improvised sound and somatic therapy principles to immerse the audience in a profound ceremonial healing journey.  \n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Gerdès FleurantAssociate Professor Emeritus of Music\n\n\n\nDr. Gerdès Fleurant is an Ethnomusicologist focusing on the folk\, ritual\, and traditional music of Africa and the Americas\, with specialization on the culture and rhythms of the Rada Rite of Haitian Vodou. \n\n\n\nHe teaches courses on the music of Africa\, Afro-America\, the Caribbean (Brazil\, Cuba\, and Haiti)\, world music\, and fieldwork/research methods in Ethnomusicology. His research is grounded in his commitment to Applied Ethnomusicology\, an approach that emphasizes tangible benefits for the people we study as well as the researcher. His research on the Rada Rite of Haitian Vodou\, presented in his book Dancing Spirits: Rituals and Rhythms of Haitian Vodun\, the Rada Rite\, is considered a landmark\, serving as a basis for the work of several emerging scholars and dancers to date. As a founding member of the Haitian Studies Association (HSA) and The Congress of Santa Barbara (KOSANBA)\, the Scholarly Association for the Study of Haitian Vodou\, he participates actively in the socio-political life of Haiti. He served as a consultant to the Ministry of Culture\, developing “Le Plan National de la Culture\,” and was the first “Recteur” of the University of the Central Plateau (UPC) in a valiant effort to develop a public higher education network outside of Port-au-Prince\, the capital city.Together with his spouse\, Florienne\, the couple built and operate the Léocardie & Alexandre Kenscoff Cultural Center (C-CLAK) and the Gawou Ginou School (GGS) in Mirebalais\, a pivotal town in Haiti’s Central Plateau. A Michigan native\, Erin followed her passion for marine science to sunny Florida where she earned her Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies from Rollins College and Master’s in Marine Conservation from the University of Miami’s prestigious Rosenstiel School of Marine\, Atmospheric\, and Earth Science. With over eight years of experience at conservation organizations nationwide\, Erin brings a wealth of knowledge about marine ecosystems and a contagious enthusiasm for protecting our blue planet. She develops and leads Miami Waterkeeper’s hands-on education and outreach initiatives\, empowering students of all ages to become advocates for South Florida’s treasured waterways. \n\n\n\n\n\nMelissa LauEducation and Outreach AssistantMiami Waterkeeper\n\n\n\nBorn and raised in Miami\, Melissa pursued her passion for environmental studies\, earning her associate’s degree at Miami Dade College before transferring to Florida International University\, where she obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Environmental Studies. While studying the different ecosystems in South Florida\, she became deeply interested in how individuals and communities interact with these environments and how they care for these places\, bridging her research interests in environmental studies and social science. Using a method called photovoice\, Melissa engaged Miami residents in capturing their emotional connections to the Miami River through photography and personal narratives. Her work highlighted the community’s relationship with the river and served as a catalyst for advocating further protection and preservation efforts for this historic yet often overlooked waterway. Melissa continues to educate the public about the significant role that the Miami River plays in the community through her role as an Education and Outreach Assistant at Miami Waterkeeper. \n\n\n\n\n\nPaul S. SUMMARY:Sold Out: Stiltsville & Key Biscayne Sunset Cruise
DESCRIPTION:Join Museum of Miami’s Resident Historian\, Dr. Paul George\, as he recounts the history of Biscayne Bay. Discover the storied past of Stiltsville\, a series of colorful wooden houses built on the flats of the bay and located inside Biscayne National Park. Known in the 1940’s\, 50’s and 60’s as a playground for the wealthy and well-connected\, Stiltsville was once home to the now infamous Crawfish Eddies and Bikini Club. Learn how this once vivacious community on stilts dwindled down to the seven houses that remain today. Dr. George will narrate and share stories of nefarious gangsters\, stunning graffiti\, and fabulous parties while guests cruise past the Cape Florida Lighthouse\, Key Biscayne\, and the City of Miami. Today\, Biscayne National Park and the Stiltsville Trust work together to support the preservation of the remaining Stiltsville houses so that future generations can experience its unique history. \n\n\n\nWater and soda service is included in the ticket price. SUMMARY:Sold Out - Stiltsville & Key Biscayne Cruise
Today\, Biscayne National Park and the Stiltsville Trust work together to support the preservation of the remaining Stiltsville houses so that future generations are able to experience its unique history. \n\n\n\nEnjoy a special presentation by environmentalist Andrew Otazo\, who once carried a 35-pound backpack of mangrove trash the length of the Miami Marathon to raise awareness about South Florida’s marine pollution problem. View “Backpack with litter collected from Bear Cut Preserve\, Key Biscayne 2019\,” currently on view at Museum of Miami. \n\n\n\nWater and soda service included in ticket price.
