Start your visit of It’s a Miami Thing with a tour led by Museum of Miami Resident Historian Dr. Paul George and take the opportunity to explore the Museum’s other installations. Enjoy music\, salsa dancing\, Junkanoo\, and hands-on activities like a party hat-making station\, where kids can craft head-topping works of art and then pop into the HM photobooth to capture the moment. A scavenger hunt throughout the Museum’s galleries will thrill guests of all ages. SUMMARY:Michael Jordan: A Re-evaluation. A virtual lecture and discussion from the Smithsonian Institution
DESCRIPTION:Join Smithsonian Affiliations and curator Dr. Damion Thomas for an online lecture about a sports legend. At one point during the 1990s Michael Jordan was the most recognizable man in the world. Almost twenty years after his last game\, this presentation will evaluate his cultural legacy\, and explain how he changed the world. \nDr. Damion Thomas is the Curator of Sports for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. He earned a Ph.D. in United States History at UCLA. Prior to joining the museum\, he was an assistant professor at the University of Maryland\, College Park and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign\, where he taught courses that focused on sports in United States history\, sports and U.S. race relations\, and sports and black masculinity.
